Default 08 d5, vacum pump/brake booster

hi all

the power assist on my brakes seems to be out, and i expect to be replacing either the brake booster or the vacum brake pump.

anyone gone through this?

The brake booster is quite a big job, due to access. Easily 3-4 hours labour in a garage, plus the cost of the part obviously.

The vacuum pump is easier. That would be around an hour to replace.

I haven’t done either myself personally. I’ve had my brake booster replaced by a Volvo Specialist. They managed to source a genuine used part for £80, but it was a £300+ repair with the labour. A new brake booster from Volvo is around £800!

test the vacuum pump with a vacuum gauge in the line it should be around 27 in/hg
