Default Hooray!

Chris came back today and finally he had a shaft that fits. He and all his suppliers have been pulling their hair out.
In the end J&R were totally confused, as were Volvo as they both agreed that the J&R one was correct and couldn’t see why it wouldn’t fit. They were using the UK reg number and the chassis number.
Another company over here in Questembert ordered a shaft for us and that was wrong, had the 36mm hub nut, so they ordered one with the 13(?) mm bolt and washer......that arrived and that one had the wrong ‘inner end’. They set about doing a swap to make a ‘good one’, but Chris watching them trying to butcher to make one that’d fit, told them to stop he wasn’t happy with there ‘butchery’ and told them to send them back.
In the end, he found a company in Sweden A-tech or something like that he said. They supplied one and it matched the old, woohoo!
He came over today and fitted it, and we are rolling once again , fantastic!
The confusing thing is that the front shafts are the small bolt and washer and the rear end has the older 36mm hub nut affair. I understand you normally have 4 the same?
Pics for reference of the old shaft as it may help if you are in the same predicament:

This does indeed sound like your car, being a 1999 model has the same issue I encountered, that being a mismatch of splines on the drive shafts, possibly backing up the theory that some of the newer P2 parts were used on the later P1 production runs.

Glad to hear you're rolling again

Hi Keith.
Chris too lives over here, about 15 miles away. He did his apprenticeship with Mercedes cars and commercials, then did MOT testing for a while, then moved over here and set up as a Mobile mechanic, he’s doing a roaring trade with the ex-pats and has a growing french clientele.
I wasn’t fuming luckily I still have The Welshmobile still and if push came to shove the old motor home could of been used.
Next up will be the French version of MOT. Not confident ar all for that, as this V70 is oddly quite rusty underneath......
