Default V40 gear engagement

V40 has done 119,000 miles. Noticed recently it is difficult to engage gears when switching on the engine from cold.

Once warmed up, no problem.

Also, when the gears don't engage when cold starting, putting into 5th gear appears to allow the rest of the gears to engage.

Anyone had this issue? Is there a known gearbox selector problem or wear issue with this? Is it something else perhaps?

Thanks.

My 99 phase 1 used to do this, I changed the gearbox oil and added some liquid moly, it didn't stop it completely but it was much improved.

It can simply be worn plastic bushes. If it helps, here's a link to an article in the guides about curing a sloppy gearselection for the Renault boxes

clutch drag probably due to a lot of clutch dust in the flywheel dragging the clutch plate around slowly when it should be stationary . Putting it in 5th stops the gears rotating .
