Default Road Tax Supplement, options, accessories

Scoping out a new Volvo XC40 and things are hovering around a list price of 40k. Over 40K and I get hit with the 'luxury' road tax supplement of 320 for 5 years. So something like the Tempa spare wheel may cost 150 but if it tips you over, then its a 1500 quid option!

Obviously some options are manufacturer options which you can't escape from but are there 'options' like Tempa spare wheel where its an aftermarket accessory? or Apple Car Play etc? Tinted Windows? and therefore does not affect the list price?

Bear in mind that you need to be looking at the taxable list price which is excluding the first year road fund (Will vary by model) and first registration fee (£55). This is the figure the £40k tax banding works on....just a heads up in case you're not already taking these off your calculations....

Kind Regards

Marc

Buy the car then buy a tempa spare wheel. The tax is calculated on what you pay for the car, not what you add to it after you've baught it is my understanding.

Mind you, 40k for an xc 40 is a shocking price. Premium car prices even if not premium cars.

Paul.

Yes - that's the plan. Stuff like the spare wheel, tinted windows can be done after the fact.

I agree 40K is crazy. Looking elsewhere, I can see brokers offering close to 20% on a CLA Shooting Brake for example, and Mercedes is considered a premium badge?!?!?!
