Question Parking sensor fault

Hi everyone, I am having an error message telling me that parking assistance service required and both front and rear sensors have stop working, am I right in thinking that if individual sensors fail the remaining sensors should carry on working ? is the error message generated by the sensor control module at the back of the car or the main ECU? I am thinking that maybe this unit has failed, can you safely unplug the front or rear sensors from this unit to help identify the problem or could it maybe just a fuse ? I have located the said fuse but removing it is a different matter !! Any advice would gratefully recieved

Many Thanks
Michael

a stored fault code will indicate which sensor is faulty , it does make life a bit easier , you probably have just one sensor at fault ..

Agreed. I have a fault with sensor 3 and the whole system is down. £76 I was quoted from an indy just to supply the part! Needs painting too. Apparently it can be a DIY job if you have the confidence. Have a search around for other threads.

Jim.

Thanks Clan, are you saying that one sensor at fault can stop both front and rear sensors working irrespective of where that faulty sensor is located.....
Thanks
Michael

My warning light came on intermittently months ago, then worked fine for a couple of months.

Started again the other week - seems to be connected with heavy rain or washing the car - diagnostic code shows;

REM -4F43 Parking assistance Sensor 2 faulty signal

Not sure if this means a connection is bad or a new sensor required - as I say, sometimes springs back into life for a while..

try to clean it with soft brush and some soap.
if you able to remove bumper can also try clean connectors.
sensor 2 is second from the left.

Default Parking sensor faulty

Michael,
My sensor no. 6 is faulty. Do you know where this is located? I have both front & rear parking assistance on xc90 2007.
Regards
Mervin

Michael,
Thanks. Spot on. Only had them fitted by Volvo dealers Feb10. Error occurs after heavy rain or car wash. Are the from sensors easier to replace ?
