Default Is it worth updating SatNav

My recently acquired car is a XC70 of 2008 model year.

It has a DVD type (pop up) SatNav. My opinion is that these are possibly the worst SatNav ever fitted to any car. Nevertheless I I would like to get the best I can out of the kit.

It is currently running 2009 discs.

Is it worth upgrading to either 2011 or, better still, 2013 versions?

It is obvious the later versions will contain more up to date maps, but...

Is there any improvements in the SatNav software itself in the later versions?

Thanks in advance

See the earlier post re sat nav. Apparently they are not being updated ? Might be worth getting an aftermarket sat nav as cheaper and better .

yes - read the earlier stuff - and appreciate the updates may have stopped.

However i know there is a 2011 version and, possibly, a 2013 version.

I am interested to know if anyone has experience of moving from 2009 to 2011 or 2013 and their opinion.

Thanks for the reply.

I went from a 2008 to 2010 and noticed I had bird's eye view which I didn't have on a 2008.

I got use to the eccentrics of the V70 RTI, mind you I came from a V50 RTI which is pretty diabolical.

I updated from 2011 to 12 and then this last 2013w20 version. I think minor improvements were made to the firmware/interface during those updates, but tweaks really, rather than fundamental changes. Having seen some older (than MY11) cars, I'd say there isn't a fundamental difference, the HW limitations are fixed.

Maybe have a browse through the Manual and see if anything looks different to what you have already.

In any case, I imagine those 2013 disks must be selling pretty cheaply on eBay, etc. by now... so if it was only a few quid it might be worth it, just for the map updates.

Or not...

Forget the maps the system is garbage. Difficult to access or understand or indeed use. The one in my wife's old discovery was easy to use, simple and you never noticed it because it was so good. The one in the Volvo,is dire. We use our phones as it's quicker by far. The unit should have been touch screen. So much more intuitive to use.
