Thumbs up 1986 Volvo 740 GLE 2.3

Well the time is nearing. My 850 is nearly rebuilt so the little 740 runabout has to go. I bought her in December from a lady in Scotland who's husband had sadly passed away, leaving the car un-used.

It looked a nice enough example, so I jumped on the 6 hour train journey from Birmingham up to Dunoon with the cash with the intention of driving her back, which I did Didn't miss a beat all the way home and hasn't since I bought her. I'm half tempted to lock her away for a rainy day but would be sad to see her sitting.

So the car. She's a 740 GLE with the B230E unit, 116K and manual gearbox with overdrive. There's a couple of bits to bear in mind as with any car of this age. Bottom ball joints are worn, but I have new ones to go on. They may make it on to the car if I have time, otherwise they'll be thrown in. The steering rack is also a bit noisy but is still ok. There is a spare one in good nick included with the car. The pulley on the power steering pump is also a bit noisy, but again a spare is included. A Sony CD head unit is also fitted and comes with obviously. Beats the tape player!

There's a few body blemishes, most notably a circular scratch on the bonnet that's quite deep, and an old scratch by the petrol cap. The interior's in good nick, save for a couple of broken bits which would be glued back together

I've mad her sound worse than she is. She's a good honest 23 year old work horse who needs a little tlc. MOT runs til September or October, but the tax runs out at the end of March. I will tax the car at the buyers cost of course, so price reflects that this is missing.

Pics to follow, and er, £250 maybe? Open to offers of course. Never sold an old Volvo before

Hmm yes, some omissions aren't there

No aircon I'm afraid (not fitted), and it is a saloon. It is also dark red, in case anyone was wondering! It'll also come with a new set of track rod ends if I can find where I put em!

Now with 6 months tax!

I can't really afford to take an offer on the £250 now though having spent over a ton on the tax!

Pics ARE coming

Ok another change of heart. I have relenquished the car of its road tax as I needed the money, so now the car is MOT'd until later in the year but is UNTAXED.

First offer to match the scrapmans £100 takes her away. Here are some pictures finally.

A ton for this, remarkable value!

Unfortunately ive been forced to change my thinking about cars like this. I cant buy stuff "because its a bloody bargain" anymore. Otherwise I end up with lots of old cars everywhere and an annoyed wife.

If you end up in the situation where you are going to ring the scrapman send me a PM. In the mean time ill fabricate a "reason" why another old volvo has appeared on the drive. My Volvo loving parents are only in Moseley. Maybe they could babysit it for me.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the replies chaps. I am going to say the car is provisionally sold to "learngolf" and he is due to collect her on 13th June. If it falls through for any reason I'll post back. Just really glad I've got some interest as I was beginning to think a lovely MOT'd 740 was heading to that place in the sky

I hope Learngolf does get it. I think retirement on the Emerald isle sounds very appealing... plus I cant think of a convincing excuse as to why we need a 740 GLE saloon!
