Coincidentally with thus thread, I finally addressed my TPS yesterday. Much research on many sites regarding the care and attentions to TPS, including Ron’s SWEM , Rennlist, Dr Djet, the aforementioned troubleshooting guide and VCOA.

After searching endlessly on the net for deoxit D5 , with long delivery time, delivery charges, I found some locally at a guitar store!

Gingerly opened up the TPS, looked quite ancient inside. Followed SWEM SITE in regard to cleaning, which I did very carefully. Went to the cartoon guide, first thing I tried was with the voltage meter, (page3-21), somewhat difficult to follow, but, I persevered, and the the result I got was to “replace the flap contact”. Wasn’t about to order up a replacement TPS, so I went to to this:

https://vcoa.org/forum/9-P1800-1800S...onic-FI-system

Much easier to follow. Going through the steps, I was able to recalibrate the TPS and get a very good result. More power, more responsiveness, and I hope, better gas mileage.

It appears my TPS was still set on the original factory settings, based on the screw positions and corrosion surrounding the screws. As it turns out the contacts that are supposed to connect on decel, which are intended to cutoff fuel, weren’t contacting, probably explains my 18-20mpg, and carbon buildup in the combustion chambers.

My last caution is that you need to set the throttle stop screw very carefully. It’s quite difficult to detect when you’ve made contact. I used an .002 feeler gauge to do this. I’d thought I’d set it previously, but hadn’t done it correctly.

If you have any questions I’d be happy to attempt to provide answers.

And thanks to Ron for your detailed instructions on cleaning.

I've carefully read all you have written. Still uncertain on some points (am a complete efi novice), but your explanations are so clear that I'm confident I can make a start and see how it all goes. First job has been to order some D5 (www.hotroxuk.com were the best value and 2 day delivery).

Thank you, C1800, very much indeed!

Default P1800e dead

Can anyone recommend a good technician in north west England or beyond to sort out my fully 'restored' P1800E? I am based in Warrington.
I took car away from the garage due to losing patience with idiots who were lying about progress and drilling holes where holes are not required. Its is fully assembled, looks great but they messed up the wiring despite having a new loom to the injectors and they didn't even take photos or bag components when stripping the car to prep it for the bodywork specialists.
I now have a car that is a few wires away from life but local mobile auto electricians only deal with newer easy money fixes.
If anyone spots this cry for help please ask said technician to ring Les on 07816245252
Thanks

Les, suggest you start a new thread rather than taking this thread off topic. You’ll probably get more responses too.

Hi everyone, the people who restored my car sent me the below link, which looks useful. Am going to take a deep breath and dive in to the issue tomorrow. Really appreciate the help you've all given.

SL, suggest you do your reading of all the material from the various sources before you pick up a wrench, better to have the big picture before hitting a roadblock.

Also best to go through the checklist as well to ensure everything else is in good shape.

Good luck!

Wise words, c1800, wise words. Will post updates, unless I make embarrassing mistakes.

Otherwise, the car starts and goes well. I've recently changed the distributor to a 1,2,3, electronic one, which made absolutely no difference (although the car does run sweeter). So I suspect a fuel problem (?). Doesn't feel like electrical, as the hesitation is stopped by moving the throttle pedal. Blocked injector?

Any suggestions from all you wise people very gratefully received.
Hi
If this doesn't solve the problem, it most certainly is the little 'O' ring around the injectors. These fit on the head.

Yes Kassie, vacuum leaks would be one of the first things to rectify.

If you get the proper Volvo seal kit, it includes insulator rings that reduce the temperature of the injectors. A good thing.
