Default V60 Front Sunroof drain failure

Not been on here for a while, but am looking for any advice on the replacement of the front sunroof drain valve (the bit that passes through the bulkhead into the scuttle area under the windscreen).

The background is that after finding the rear carpet soaking wet and testing for leaks I found the passenger sunroof drain is leaking down the bulkhead behind the dash. On inspection under the scuttle panel I can see the rubber "+" shaped drain valve (also known as the pass through) is missing on that side, and the drain tube is disconnected from the tube as it disappears behind the screen heater vent on the top of the dash.

Looking on youtube there are various videos on this but all seem to relate to the XC90, XC70 and XC60. On the V60 I can't even get a finger to where the joint behind the dash is, never mind remove and replace the rubber piece which has, I assume, rotted out.

I have most of the passenger side of the car out including the front carpets to dry (the rear carpet is currently spaced off the floor pan to help dry it out) but am stuck on what to do next. I don't really fancy having to take the dash out in order to reach the failed drain valve! Equally it *might* be possible to reach with the windscreen removed, but I don't want to go to the expense if it isn't!

Just wondered if anyone has had this part replaced or knows if it is possible with the dash still fitted. I'm going to remove the glovebox next to see it there is any access from below once I have the carpets dry (so I have something to kneel on).

Did you ever solve this? I think I have exactly the same problem. I have the front carpet out, removed the glove box, even thought it might be behind the wheel arch liner so removed a the wheel and the liner (worth it to clear the rotting debris to be fair), but just can’t get to the pipe. Really don’t fancy removing the dash, or the inevitable massive bill of getting a garage to do it.

Sorry you are having problems - I had this on a previous Audi A6...

Just posting as my 2016 V60 needed a new interior fan motor last week and the service manager said they would need it for 2 days because it was buried in the dash, and would need "an awful lot of trim removing". Fortunate to have an extended warranty, otherwise I'm guessing at £1000.

Hi,

I am not English native so will try to explain as better as I can. I do not know how to fix it however my mechanic did it. I have a Volvo C30 with sunroof. First I noticed all my windows were getting like foggy and dump inside the car. I have tried a few remedies but none of them working

Then I took the car to my mechanic...by my surprise he took out the carpet of the car and show me the water under the driver and passenger seats. There was around 20 centimeters deep of water...........

Mechanic said that due to dust and leaves etc... the tubes which suppose to evacute the water from the sunroof were blocked. Actually, he told me that one was blocked and the other was cut.... no idea how that was possible.....anyway he fixed......... He had to take out the carpets, the seats and use a machine to dry the car. Seemgly the car was flooded for several months but no damaged in the chasis was visible...

I hope it helps

By the way, wondering if any you guys owe a Volvo V60 D4 from the year 2012, 13, 14, 15 with 180 bhp... how is the fuel comsuption? I was looking at the T4 (petrol 1.6) but I believe will be heavy in petrol so wondering if you have a Volvo V60 D4 from that year or even D5 to see your feedback regarding fuel economy...

I believe the engine is fast enough taking into consideration that Volvos are heavy cars....

Cheers!

Hola,
I've a 2015 D4 V60 SE Lux. Around town and country roads 50mpg (5.25L 100km) is about the best I get, motorways I regularly get 65mpg (4.35L 100km) doing 63mph (100kmh). Biggest problem is the EGR, since I deactivated mine 3 years ago (Touch wood)haven't had a problem.
Lovely engine with plenty of get up and go, some decent chips on the market help with low end torque and smoothing out the power band.
I have a manual gearbox as is my preference with the added bonus of zero UK road tax. Navigation will most likely cease to be supported in 2025 so don't let it influence your decision.

Hi Esty

I bought my D4 SE, manual not automatic, as a new car in 2015. I have driven 121000km, and all journeys are at least 40km. I never drive less than 35km, and almost always in rural areas, not urban, so no stopping and starting or slow journeys. Like Rob3583 I get 4.35l/100km on longer journeys at 100km/hour.

Over 8 years the average fuel consumption is 5.35l/100km. It has used no oil at all, and has been serviced annually at Volvo.

There were some worldwide Recalls by Volvo in the first two or three years to replace the EGR valve and EGR cooling system with a new design, to replace the manifold (some had melted!!), and make a small alteration to the engine coolant pipework, but all Recalls were free as Volvo paid. I had no trouble with any of these problems, and it was just preventative work. It is a great car.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your help. I’ve cleared out a lot of the water, and currently parked facing uphill to encourage any water that comes through the sunroof to drain out the functioning rear drain pipes until I fix the front.

I have a D5 from 2013, if doing a lot of town driving, I get about 32-38mpg. But if mainly motorway, with cruise control set to 70 then it’s more like 49/50mpg. Those figures are calculated from tank refill.
I’ve seen the display average 80mpg when sticking to 50mph in roadworks. I would only recommend diesel if you’re doing plenty of long journeys, the torque and power is quite fun though!
