lpg and my insurace
hi there ive just had my v70 converted to lpg its great, but my insurance company wants to charge me sixty pounds extra for the conversion wich i think is unfair. i said to my insurance why was there an extra charge when if i opened a new policy with the same insurace there was no charge for lpg,she said the only way is to cancil my insurance and open a new one, i asked them how much will it cost me to cancil ,they said 50 pounds so as you can see its a bit of a catch 22 . want doe you think about my situation and can anyone advice me on an insuranse that is fair and does not charge extra many thanks ged

Privilege made no extra charge. I told them over the phone, and they sent an amended policy.

I found 'A-Plan' and 'Zurich' do not charge extra, either.

Bell Insurance sorted me out. If you shop around you should get a discount for LPG. Specialist insurers reckon LPG drivers are better risks than petrol heads. They think that anyone who gets LPG is a tight-wad who'll drive a bit slower to save cash!
Cheers Jack (yes that's me in the middle lane at 69mph - but what the heck, it's a Volvo so I do own the road!) |

It's a racket charging an admin fee at all. Privilege, for example, didn't make a charge even when I changed the car, the driver or the fuel type.

When i looked into this years ago, my insurance would only insure it if it had been installed by a certified fitter (they wouldn't insure at all if not- even if certified after installation) and would add about 10% to the price! Some companies wouldn't insure at all!
I take it companies have loosened up on it a bit now? If you fit it yourself will they insure now? Do you need to have it certified? My mini insurance (classic) charges £12 admin fee for changes to policy... but they didn't charge a penny extra for adding girlfriend and dad so will let them off!

LPG Insurance
Swift (AXA) specify on-line that they don't even want to know about approved LPG conversions when you take out a policy with them. They're also cheapest by far for me (although they don't have a talking meerkat).
