... so it has been off the road for 2 years. There is also a 10 year gap when the motor car was VOR from 2006 to 2016. It looks like the motor car has probably been sitting on the current owner's drive since he/she bought it in about 2016 as it has only been MoT tested once in that time.

I rather suspect the current owner bought it cheaply as a barn find or similar in 2016, got it through the MoT and has since parked it on the drive waiting for it to appreciate. Perhaps he/she intended to wait until it qualified for historic car status but got bored and couldn't wait another 4 years? Perhaps the ULEZ has made it impractical to keep now?

Anyway, there is a bit more to this than meets the eye, and it is not very good news. Is the motor car worth £5,000? Of course not - £2,500 would be fair.

Alan

PS. Date of last V5C (logbook) issued 10 February 2017
This motor car failed to get any bids at a starting price of £5,000. Readers may recall it didn't have a MoT and hadn't been on the road for quite a while. I was curious and thought I'd see if the seller had bothered to get it tested yet and found it had failed:

4 November 2021
FAIL
Mileage 41,122 miles
MOT test number 1526 5847 4462
Test location

Repair immediately (major defects):
Front Windscreen washer not working (3.5 (a))
Rear Windscreen washer not working (3.5 (a))
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Front Oil leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i))
Vehicle structure is corroded but structural rigidity is not significantly reduced (6.1.1 (c) (i))

... well, the windscreen washers not working is no big thing, probably easily fixed. The corrosion is though - it isn't bad enough to fail the MoT yet, but it isn't what one might expect to find on a £5,000 motor car either.

We will probably see that motor car again in a week or two, but it will be hard for the seller to justify a £5,000 price tag if it leaks oil (a pet hate of mine) and is a bit rusty.

We'll see :-)

I suspect this one will do the rounds, as you say, Alan.

As soon as the whole truth is told, I'm interested, weasel words I ain't!

An honest summary attracts people.

Anyway if you miss this one there's alway the Bolton Wanderer!

... I'm pretty sure we have seen this one previously. I don't recall what the asking price was then.

The auction seems to be going very well indeed: up to £7,100 already and with 31 bids from 11 different bidders in just one day! There seems to be a frenzy for this one - sometimes one wonders whether it is all genuine.

Alan
The £10k one seems to have stalled, after the initial frenzy, with no bids for about 5 days now. Perhaps people have spotted the "deposit taken" note, or as suggested by others perhaps we will get a finally flurry as it approaches the final minutes tomorrow.

Or perhaps 'something else', again as suggested.

If you look at his feedback, he called someone an "idiot " for bidding on something already sold!
Yet this 240 has put on at least 2k since deposit taken, so I'm struggling a bit with the thought processes at wok in Bolton!

Yanthelandyman? Been at this for years. I looked to buy a defender off him years ago - suspect most of the stuff on eBay is set at mad high reserves and are sold before he lists them.

I'm not really following this; what would be the point of listing a motor car that was already sold?

Alan

Perhaps I'm just a simple soldier, but I still can't imagine what the advantage would be of advertising something that is already sold - it must cost the seller money to place an ad.

Advertising I think.

Look at his completed listings - never reach their reserve, but if you call him they are always sold already.

Odd way to do business.
