Personally, I have found small independent local garages to be best equipped to sort out front suspension bushes and wheel alignment on the 940. In over twenty years of ownership I have also tried Volvo dealers, alignment specialists and occasional DIY with varying degrees of success.

Depends on what needs doing Jim. Changing front bushes arms etc is an easy diy job but I would get alignment done by a specialist

Bushes on the control arm and strut rod last for ages but the spaceship bushes don't.

If the wear is being caused by worn suspension bushes would the MOT have mentioned them? Has the tracking been checked recently? If not then I would have that checked first and the person doing the tracking may be able to identify any worn bushes.

Not necessarily Ian - the previous owner of mine had bidged the spaceship bushes so there was little or no play in them but it put the wheel alignment miles out. Once they were renewed, it was toeing out like Charlie Chaplin, literally visible from 10-15ft in front of the car!

The MoT said nothing about this at all, the test is only to decide that there isn't excessive play.

I tried a local branch of a national tyre shop who shall remain nameless ut their initials are ATS and they, somehow, i'll never know how, managed to make it toe out even worse and charged me £36 for the privilege.

I bought a Trackace Laser Alignment kit and did it myself after ensuring the steering rack was centred first (this is VERY important!) and haven't had a problem since. That said, it does need a tweak now thanks to some potholes recently.

Worn bushes aren't always easy to pick up with wheel alignment gear unless they're so badly worn that it changes for no apparent reason, even then there are other factors that could cause that anomaly.
