Default S40 T5 Battery died overnight

My battery has crapped out overnight with zero warning.

I say zero warning; I was running a plug-in mini compressor for the tyres recently and got the LOW BATTERY message on the dash after about 5 minutes - that was a few weeks ago but no other issues since.

This morning the car unlocked with the remote ok but when I turned the Ignition on - nothing, no lights on the dash, nothing apart from a few relays slowly clicking from various places.

My first factory fitted Volvo Battery lasted 11 years and this second battery was an aftermarket replacement and seems to have had cell go down or something after 4 years but it's completely goosed.

Have now ordered a Volvo Battery from local dealer - £115.00 inc vat.

Not surprised that an after market one has lasted 4 years. I had similar recently on my girlfriends Clio, died after 3 years of being replaced.

I know people hoot on about Volvo things being the best and often (on the non Ford in a frock Volvo's) this is true, especially regarding batteries. They really last a long time.

4 years is not bad for some batteries. I would still check if the alternator charges before replacing it.

ever wondered why "cheaper" batteries come with a 2-3-4 year warranty
there designed to last "just" a bit longer than the warranty,,
unsure how/why volvo branded batterys differ, but they Do last a lot longer,
usually 2 or 3 "cheap" batterys to a volvo one,,,

Picked up the Genuine Volvo Battery on Saturday, it dropped straight in - perfect fit, all I did was give the Parts Dept. my reg number and they sourced the correct battery for me - can't recommend Volvo enough in this respect.

My mother's battery on her car also shorted out last week - less than 2 years old and branded "Trade Club Battery" - was fitted by a local Garage. I went and got a nice Yuasa Battery and fitted that for her.

I spent £140 on an Odessy red competition battery , it packed up just after the 2 year warranty expired ... back to Halfords for a Grey Yuasa one superb batteries ... for half the cost ( for non volvo car )

Generally Volvo batteries from the dealer are best Value ....
