Default XC 90 D5 185 "Engine System Service Required"

Hi Guys,

I recently bought a 2007 XC 90. Its a D5 185. The car has 165k miles.

Unfortunately I received the "Engine System Service Required" message on the way home after purchasing.

I had this scanned had the following show.

26B0 Injector Power Stage, Cylinder 5, Faulty Signal

135F Mass Air Flow Sensor . Faulty Signal.

The above errors were cleared however they reoccurred after a few miles.

Other than the above errors the car starts and drives perfectly.

Advice would be greatly appreciated .

Many Thanks
Gerard

If you bought within the last 30 days you have the option to reject the car and ask for your money back. If you really like the car then they must repair FOC.

If later than 30 days this may require some negotiation but likely law will support you. I suggest first step is to take it back to the garage you bought from - do not try fixing yourself or you will give the garage a reason to reject any claim you have. If they turn their back, you are legally OK to get fixed elsewhere and send them the bill as you have given them the chance to sort it - for sure will require taking them to the small claims court so this route best avoided if possible!

Thanks for you reply. Unfortunately there was no warranty.

Im guessing that the above mentioned errors are of concern even though there is no loss of power or difficulty starting the car?

Could anybody explain what these error codes mean and if its a big job to resolve?

26B0 Injector Power Stage, Cylinder 5, Faulty Signal

135F Mass Air Flow Sensor . Faulty Signal.

Thanks Guys

Likely is an injector fault and needs replacing. Warranty is irrelevant , this may help:

https://www.moneyadviceservice.org.u...-with-your-car

How long have you had the car - if less than 2 months I would definitely push the seller (assuming not private) to fix the fault - garage cannot ignore by saying is high mileage and so not their problem. They take the gamble will be Ok which is why they charge a premium over private sale. Main dealers move on higher mileage cars to indy's for this reason.

26B0 points to a signal problem with injector 5. It could be a wiring issue in the loom. Check this out...

Similar with the MAF. Check all connections and wiring for continuity first.

the maf fault will show if there is a leak in the charge pipe between the turbo and intake, look at the connection with the orange seal under the engine...

Maf available from amazon.de for much lower price than in uk or ireland..

€125 for original bosch search for BOSCH 0281006184 Luftmassenmesser (sorry cannot find link without my account details showing)
