Replacing terminals is the correct way to fix a weak electrical contact

As an alternative, here's the cheap way to do it, without replacing any parts:
  1. Remove the terminal from the connector housing (if removing more than one terminal at a time, take a photo first showing wire colours and pin positions).
  2. Most connectors allow terminals to be released by lifitng a retaining locking tab (carefully) to free the pin for removal
  3. Clean the pin and the connector (on the mating connector, in this case the fuel injector) with contact cleaner to remove any dirt, oil and other contaminants
  4. Observe the pin mating surfaces and determine where the tension occurs.
  5. Carefully squeeze the pin together with longnose pliers in such a way as to increase the pin contact tension
  6. Refit pin to connector and test over a week to see if the problem disappears

I used the above strategy on a Fiat Tipo with increadibly unreliable connector contacts on almost all exterior lamps. Afterwards, the lamps were 100% reliable for the remaining 3 years I owned the car.

Thank you for this advice. On another topic would you have any idea of what the gear oil change/flush interval is on a 2007 face lift D5 XC 90 ? The gear change is currently smooth however with 165000 miles I would like to have it changed for peace of mind. I am hoping to get to 200k

Volvo state "lifetime" but you don't want to wait until the death of the gearbox (which is when the lifetime expires...)

I just had my MY2009 auto gearbox oil changed at 120000km (75000 miles), as a precaution and for peace of mind. It was still changing smoothly but I wanted to ensure it would be fine for many years to come.
My dealer correctly entered the gearbox oil change in the service booklet.

So check your vehicle's service booklet: if the vehicle has never had a gearbox oil change, consider doing it now. And make sure it is recorded as proof!

I am about to sell my 2006 with 280k kms on it.. (if it passes NCT on wednesday) would it be very rude to ask what you paid for the 2007 and if it was discounted on the advertised price... they seem to vary widely on donedeal/adverts.

Tony.

Sorry just seen your question. I paid 5k for mine with 165000 miles. This was from a dealer. It was in pretty good condition with FSH.

Thanks, mine failed the NCT for sticking handbrake but with new pads disks and shoes will pass next time out, smoke was almost nil this time with new rings and dpf clean out, but am selling anyway, if I got anything like 5k Id grab it or even a bit less from the UK coz Id get some VRT back from the Minister as well....

Buy a Dice and download VIDA it will run on any decent laptop using a virtual machine...It will pay foritself by asving one trip to have codes read and cleared.

Hi,

I see that power stage fault code from time to time but never seems to cause any problems, check the relevant injector connector and see if its full of white powder, replace connector if it is.

MAFs rarely fail on these I suspect its more likely an air leak, if its running fine then probably best leave it for now if the air leak gets worse it will be easier to find, listen for a wooshing sound under boost, intercoolers and charge pipes fail often.

Strongly recommend changing the gearbox oil, auto boxes are a common failure at this mileage and fresh fluid helps allot. Its expensive though and you will need 9 litres it is not straightforward to change either :-)

regards Ben

I elected to change my gearbox oil at 125000 km (77000 miles)
It was, as you said, expensive.

But it was not difficult at all.
I told the dealer to do it during the service and the next day it was done

My dealer charged me for 10 litres and the oil alone, without tax, cost 265 GBP. That's 26.50 GBP per litre, plus 8% tax on top.
So definitely expensive, but STILL cheaper than a replacement gearbox...
