Default Clicking sounds from spinning wheels

Guys,

My 940 turbo 1997 manual.

Today I replaced the rear calipers. I spun the rear to see if the wheel bearings are noisy.
I never heard them rumble so bit concerning to heat this....

I posted this on fb. They reckon diff is bad. One chap said hand brake.

What do you all think?

Cheers

Martin

If that's bearing noise, then they're shot.
However, the only thing you've changed is the calipers. Is there something catching and rubbing? Have you bent something?

Here's a link to your video without the extra "]" :

Meanwhile, i recognise that sound!

https://youtu.be/UKHBvL67I74

The diff was making as much noise as both sides put together, i thought i'd gone deaf when i fitted the replacement back axle!

On mine it was wheel bearings and diff bearings plus some extra whine and rattle from the crown wheel and pinon in the diff because of the extra play so made a right cacophony!

I think you're right Mark but i was under the impression it was only the diff? That would still leave the bearings for the diff and wheels to find and fit.

To paraphrase the HBoF, it's not really a DIY job to replace the bearings etc in the axle assembly, partly because of the kit need to set the pinion bearing pre-load, partly because of how the bearings are originally fitted (and therefore how the old ones need to come out) and a few other things.

As such, a replacement axle would be the best/easiest solution.

I might be wrong, the diff Luke has might already be fitted into a good axle so it's definitely worth a try.

Seems i was wrong, it is the complete axle! Here's the link :

It was first posted in February and no replies to the post so presumably still available!

I do have a complete G80 axle sat in the garden for sale

One side is missing a wheel stud and has a very short stud for some reason, I never saw the car running as it was burnt out from a split fuel line (garden hose!), that was fun pulling it out of a muddy hole in the pouring down rain up hill with no winch on the trailer just a ratchet strap! We had to keep doing up then holding the car still as the handbrake had failed while we loosened it off to go again. It took about 2 hours to get it on the trailer and it almost ran away from us at one point.

I have taken my rear callipers off today to check them and the discs, I also have the exact same noise when I rotate the rear hubs and it sounds the same both sides. Mines a 940. I was thinking/ hoping it might just be the rear wheel bearings

It almost certainly is the wheel bearings Will. See my comments above but i think there might be a sudden scrabble for Lukes back axle!
