Default Disaster on my 760T

Major disaster - my 760T (B230ET), apart from other things, has a cracked block (by the water pump) and an atf leak from the front of the AW71. Options - (1) find a known perfect B230ET and AW71 and if so at what price delivered (my garage will charge me maybe £1500 to put them in). (2) sell car complete (with Pholus wheels not Galaxies) - will need to trailer away, the water leak is now too big even to aim for 50 miles and top up.

Car had recon Garrett maybe 1000 miles ago.

Going to go and cry now.

I have a B230 turbo bottom end that was in a fire, I believe it to be a B230ET bottom end as the 940 it came from had a 531 head and it doesn't have the oil squirter bulges on the block.

I don't know the condition of it internally but the bottom end spins over absolutely fine.

Yours for £80

As for an AW71 I have one from the 1998 940 I'm breaking that Mark (Griston64) drove and he didn't say anything about the gearbox being stuffed £100 for this one, it has done 147k miles.

Luke beat me to it, i was going to suggest him as a possible source as i knew he had an engine and possibly a box.
Sounds like the cheapest way of doing it, other than the labour to have it fitted of course.

That said, without putting words in Lukes mouth but i think he'll see where i'm going here, how much would it be to get the car transported to Worcester, for Luke to supply/fit a secondhand engine and box and for a train ticket for you to collect the car from Worcester?

Probably a lot less than what your garage would charge just for fitting!

Just a thought of course but it might spawn ideas.............

I'd like to see pictures of this cracked block, this is very unusal for a redblock. Are you sure you trust this garage?

In any case a decent redblock and/or gearbox can be sourced via the community for a few hundred and put in over a weekend. I know if you lived near me I would help for free, its an easy(ish) job.

Do you need a 'numbers matching car' or would any turbo redblock do, like a later B230FK/T.

From the comment about finding another good B230ET in the first post Tony i think he does want to keep the ET engine, seeing as it's 20bhp more than the FT version. No idea without checking if there would be any benefits in changing for an FT and using the existing turbo and management to presumably still achieve 185bhp as standard or whether there would be other impediments such as milder cams etc on the FT/K but if memory serves the Fx has the T cam and the B230ET has the V cam with ~1.6mm more lift and about 7 degrees earlier opening.

As you say though, it's a weekends work to do it taking it steady and including a new timing belt and oil/filter change on the "new" engine, adding new ATF to the gearbox (could be the dipstick tube "O" ring leaking on the front of the existing one so may need no more than that), coolant flush using water and flushing agent then add 5L of ethylene glycol and probably give time for some other preventive maintenance jobs to be done as well.

B230ET has the Garrett T3 turbo, A cam, 531 head, 9mm rods and no oil squirters.

If it were me I would use a late B230FK block so it has the 13mm rods and oil squirters then use the 531 head and Garrett T3 turbo with an adaptor plate to use the 90+ exhaust manifold.

I've got a complete B230ET sat on the floor of the garage that I need to get in to my 360 as I've been saying I will do it for years now!

I think the ET pistons give higher compression too. Probably needs to be run on high octane, or 95 might be a bit marginal having been designed for 4 star?

The B230ET needs 98 octane aka Super Unleaded. Given the FT/K were designed for 95 octane, i suspect the advance curves on fuel and igniton will also be different.
