All very strange
I needed to replace my water pump back in 2012. Obtained from main dealer, part no. VO271075, £55.62 ex VAT. Came in a box with seals and gasket. Box marked “Made in England”. Unfortunately I didn’t know enough then to check the impeller material or search for a manufacturer name. The replacement pump was extremely difficult to fit. The lowest round bolt hole, not the oval ones, did not line up with the tapped hole on the cylinder head. It was 1.5 mms too low. The new top seal was too thick to allow the pump to be levered up far enough to insert the bolts in the holes which did line up. In desperation I modified the lower bolt hole with a rats tail file so that
it was possible to insert the bolt, and re-used the old top seal. To date it is still OK. I was very disappointed with that alleged OEM pump. To date it is the only OEM part I have bought which was allegedly made in England.
On reflection I should have returned it and complained but then I needed the car back on the road asap. If it were now I would have returned it as faulty.

Seems to be par for the course now Ian. There are even fake SKF ones on the market as well.
