It's a BA9s bulb i think Jim. I changed mine completely, mainly because the entire bulbholder was missing!

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-Side-...s/392364207553

I used one of these (white one) and simply bolted it in place after drilling two holes for the bolts in the glovebox. Fitte a male 1/4" spade terminal on each wire and connected to the orignal plug that goes on the glovebox lampholder. Being LED they're polarised so if it doesn't work at first, swap the leads round, job done! Much brighter in the glovebox now, no heat and no longer a pain to change!

Is it this one Jim https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/383325303748

I might have some kicking about. If not you can remove the bulb and re solder new ones in. A bit fiddly but not impossible

You'll have a permanent +ve feed to it Jim and with the glovebox open, battery voltage across the bulb holder. I hadn't realised Volvo had changed it on later models, mine was almost as hard to find although somewhat cheaper but all the BA9s bulbs seem fragile these days, number plate bulbs are forever going!

Thanks Mark, i didn't know they'd changed it on later cars!

Yeah I’ve got the later bulbs, super expensive.
I found some 12v LEDS I soldered into the fittings of the blown bulbs for the dash switch lights but they didn’t work very well as the lift wasn’t projected all around the bulb. I still have the one I put in my glovebox though, works fine but the light is a little cold.

Loads! I don't use so-called 12V LEDs because they don't last. I can explain better later but for now, the Chinese (who are pretty much the only suppliers now) use a current limiting resistor based on 12V operation at the maximum current.

Running LEDs at maximum current isn't good for there lifespan in any case but is made worse because the charging voltage from the alternator is in fact 20% higher than 12V @14.4V so the poor LED is being fed about 33% excess current and voltage to what it can withstand.

Result - short lifespan.

I use a bigger current limiting resistor so the brightness is close to maximum but it has about 50% more current capability and i worked out the current limitng resistor at 14.4V to start with.

I'll see if I have any grain of wheat bulbs with the legs and you can solder them in ? That would be free

If it's a late 700 Series it's a 9 BA s (2w push in) nothing simpler than that. Cheap as chips!
