Daft question, but do people not know the age of your car with a personalised number plate? I have been looking and there is one I like for a couple of hundred, but it still has numbers in it which gives a year? So how does that work?
Yes people can determine the registration date of your car from the registration plate. It is public access information via the DVLA e.g. the link below

I have a personal plate on my car. It is pretty much my name. It still makes me smile everytime I walk up to the car. To anyone who doesn't know me it looks like a conventional plate. I love the fact that it is both personal and covert.

Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to reply. Never met such a sensible bunch of car enthusiasts on a car forum. Wonder what the response would be if I posted the same on a BMW owners forum

You have definitely given me some food for thought and more research to do. When is the XC60 due for a full revision, I'm guessing we are currently mid-life so another 5 or so years?

The current XC60 was launched in 2017, 3 years after the current XC90 I think. The latter is rumoured to be replaced next year so maybe 4 years or so for a new 60?

I have had two new V40s and now the V60. Could never afford a new car until I retired, and didn't have the benefit (?) of a company car. I liked the chance to choose my colour and options. My first Volvo was ex Volvo management (S40 2.0T) and my V50 was pre registered, with only 46 miles on the clock.
Just been called by the dealer, suggesting I consider changing to a later V60, but I will probably keep this one. A reasonably speccd V60 is over £40k and I object to the excess tax on cars over that figure.

On the topic of personalised number plates - there is a BMW I often see on my way to work that is AR51 HOL.
Always makes me grin! I wonder what he had to pay for that.

What's the best site to use for private number plates?

Because don't you need to register it etc? Having a look some sites charge extra for this, but isn't it free to do? Don't want to be ripped off.

If I tried to drill it on it would only end badly so would have to use some adhesive.

Sorry to hijack thread.

Ideally buy direct from dvla - as a private company will have put a margin on it.

A lot of people use the double sided pads

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Number-Adhe...a-865064980222

Obvs you will need to get the plate made too. Motor factors, Halfords etc.

Or just get garage to make and fit when you next service your car which will cost extra but saves the hassle.
