Mystery Volvo part
This image is of a mystery part that was under the driver's seat of my car
(MY 10 C70) when it went for its 50,000 mile service at a Volvo main dealer yesterday. The part number is 08639583 RH and the service and parts staff were unable to identify it. I have tried several online parts dealers, using the same part number and nothing has been found. Does any member know how the part may be identified or even what it is? Thank you.

That looks like the cover of a seatbelt mount. Check behind the driver's seat where the belt is mounted. In the C30 there is a cover like that which covers a mounting point of a rail.

You win the internets. There was a part that was a mirror image of that piece on the opposite seat belt mounting rail. I now wonder how it came to be that the Volvo dealer could not recognise it. The part number was not found or described in any of their parts catalogues either. Oh well... I am obliged to you, Daim.

The 'part number' would probably seem to be invalid using a parts ordering computer as the cover would not be available seperately from the whole seatbelt. I've just looked at the heater controls unit I have in the garage, it has two main parts of the body each has a number moulded into it which are similar but the last 3 digits vary and neither number is the part number on the box. Every bit in a car will have a part number, in the old days that was what we called its drawing number, and for plastic parts moulding the number into the part would mean anyone could distinguish between stocks of left or right handed parts even without knowing what they were or where they fit.

This is in sharp contradistinction to the steering rack enquiry which I made using the Central Volvo Customer Service. They told me that they would get back to me within a day and never did. Abysmal and one to avoid, I think.
