Default Refurb or New?

Hi All

My alloys are absolutely knackered so the question is do I get them refurbed or get a new set of wheels?

I need 17" wheels and my local tyre guy says he can send the wheels off to Pristine (whom I am sure will do a cracking job) but the downside is the car will be off the road for a week. The cost is £100 per wheel.

So should I send them off or get a set of new alloys? I assume non Volvo are cheaper?

Any thoughts welcome.

Cheers
Alan

Get some other quotes. that seem a bit steep. Mine cost €30 each.

I paid £60 for a section of a wheel to be refurbed so £100 is reasonable. I would imagine that you may be able to get cheaper elsewhere by playing companies off against each other. In the the current economic climate they want the business.

A 'how to' would be useful at this point...

You could just buy some 2nd hand wheels that are in better shape then sell your old ones?

Hello

It's a bit late for you to do this now, but I got some steel wheels from Salvo and had them fitted with winter tyres. Swapped them for the alloy/summer tyres in November, and put the alloys in for a refurb (£65 per wheel for a full stripdown, filler where necessary, powder coat &c - they look as good as new!). It was meant to take a week, but I got them back in three days.

Now (warmer weather!?) swapped back.
