Default volvo 145 unleaded timing

Hi guys, ive been running my 145 with B20A engine on unleaded with no probs, ive just had the engine out so I could respray the engine bay.
Ive just refitted it but forgot to mark the timing mark on the distriputer. Can anyone recomment what timing would be best for unleaded use??? one thing I did find which ive seen on the forum is she does run a bit hot when towing should I be running more than standard 14bttc??? cheers Kev

Default Timing

Hi - my 144 has a b20A and I use it every day, running mainly on unleaded. I have one of the Amazon Cars dizzies with a slightly different advance curve. I tried it with the timing set at about 10btdc. There was no pinking at all. At the moment it is set at about 14btdc. There is some pinking, but I get about 20 more miles to a tankful than when it was set at 10btdc. I am intending to set it to about 12btdc, to see if I can get a happy medium - less pinking, more mpg.
So far it has not struggled with the heat, even driving round town at midday, sometimes carrying a heavy load. I tend to overheat though as the interior is black.
I think you will have to try and find what timing around the 10 to 14 area suits your engine and driving style best.
Good luck,
Martin

When we set a engine by ear to run best on unleaded the timing normaly ends up with 1 deg of the book figure!
Best thing to do is set it to the book figure and then adjust a little if you have pinking
