Default 140/164/240? propshaft centre bearing interchangeability

How interchangeable are the prop shaft centre bearing assemblies on 164s with other models? I would guess that they're the same as on the 140... is this true? How about the 240 series - do 240 centre bearings fit? And to what extent are the answers to any of these questions "yes but only for certain model years"?

If the options for interchanging centre bearings are restrictive, how about complete propshafts? If the cars concerned all have the same transmission option, will a complete 140 propshaft fit a 164 or do the back ends of the gearboxes end up in a different place on the two models? How about a 240? I know on the Amazon you can interchange the various different propshaft assemblies complete but not the centre bearings between them, and the last Amazon variant was the same as the 140. If a 164 propshaft problem can be cured by fitting a complete propshaft assembly from a dead 240 it makes things a lot easier.

If only 164 centre bearing assemblies fit 164s, I'd like to know the part number please...

If does depnd on model.

Early 140's use a similar support to the amazon.

After that it all depends on the size of the prop.

dl have the smaller dia prop. Injected car have the next size up and GLT's have the biggest. The 164 has the fuel injection size.

There are more variations - just oreder the correct one for the car they are not expensive.

Yo pigeon, I am so with Classic Swede on this one, see my description of the pain I got into trying to cross breed an early and late 140 running gear. Unless you are attempting a dramatic re-engineering it ain't worth the hassle.

Enjoy!

No, no re-engineering intended. I'm not seeking to modify the car, I was just wondering if it would be less hassle to go down the scrappie and whip a part off a 240 rather than ordering one in. If this is not the case then fair enough. Thanks.
