So an update as promised.

41mm LEDS are working much better, hovewer I think sweet spot is 39mm. 41's are a bit too long it seems and actually compress the contacts too much now, making them unusuable in aftermarket holders (they fell out as contact parts are not attached to plastic housing but simply bent and squeezed in. Thats the quality for the price I guess). I think 38/39 mm bulbs would work perfectly in all housings.
I changed the housings back to OEM ones also to test if the previous issue was solely down to small bulbs, and installed 41mm leds. So far so good, no flickering and nice, uniformed light when alligned bulbs in 90 deg.
Pics below, also with comparison of OEMs (left) and aftermarket housings (right).
fingers crossed :}

Good stuff. Hope they last a bit longer.

Mine on the other hand decided to start flickering like crazy last night on the D/S. Took the holder out and it was covered in corrosion and salt. Put it all back together and the LED was dead.

Going to take it all to bits on Friday I think.

Had to go to Halfrauds and get some standard bulbs Bosch ones for £4...... The yellow glow looks so old and dated....

are those not too bright? Looks like a portable flood light I hate when car in front of me has licence plate better lit than actual rear lights... :/
