Just checked. My rear cargo glass has the 'hammer symbol'. This confirms what I ordered which was: Laminated Windows including Cargo Area and Water Repellent Front Side Windows -- £500.

So, now you only get laminated side windows (NOT water repellent front side windows) and pay £700 for option. (I searched for 'water' and 'repellant' in the options field and nothing came top.) VERY disappointing.

I'm starting to feel the cost accountants have already been at work on this 'next generation cash cow', but what Volvo have to realise is that they are pricing and optioning the car into F-Pace territory, and that's even before we dare to mention the 6-cylinder engines and the (soon to be updated) Macan. As always, there will be 'sweet spots' in the version / option selection. It's just that I ticked nearly every option box and reckon I got a better deal than anything on offer from Germany. Now, if want to be indulgent, it might be a different story. But that's a few years off yet !

I notice the weight is listed as over 2000kg now. Can that be a mistake? I expected it to be lighter, not over a 100kg heavier than the old model?

Could be a mistake. They can't even seem to agree on the ground clearance. 216mm or 230mm ? Both appear on the diagram in post 57. Early days proof reading errors I suspect.

It is possible it's an error in the description I suppose as the cabin quietness is still being described as better.

On the water repellence, I just had my new V40 treated with the latest version of the Williams Ceramic Coating and the detailer put it on the windscreen as well as the rest of the glass and we have virtually stopped using screen wash.

The other thing we need to take into account is the drop in the value of the pound thanks to Brexit.

I thought that at first Nigel but then I realised they are from different models. The new one is 216 mm in road mode 256 mm in off road (top diagram )and the old one 230 mm all the time (bottom diagram).

XC60 and V60 are up near the mondeo and Passat, not sure why ypu have such a bee in your bonnet about 4 pot engine, the D4 is a significantly better power plant than the VAG or ford efforts, its far far better engine that was in my Audi A4. Certainly my XC60 is by far the better car compared to my A4 avant in terms of quality, reliability and power train, and easily as good as a Q5.

4 pot,3 pot and hybrids are the future, 5 and 6 cyls are lovely but they dont keep a company afloat!!
A V60 is closer in size to a current focus estate than a mondeo estate.

The D4! Have they finally fixed it? I was far from impressed when I test drove a xc60 D4. The XC90 D5 was no better. And not a patch on the previous 5 cylinder.
It's nowhere near BMW's 2.0d and not as good as VAG. Which is very reliable by comparison.

4pot, 3 pot and hybrids are the future for company car buyers. Not private buyers spending £40k+. Thank god most car companies don't need to be "kept afloat".

How much do you think BMW make developing a m3 compared to a 320d? They don't do it for company car drivers. They do it for their fans and enthusiasts. Volvo instead have decided to rip theirs off with cheap China cars in posh clothes.

I like my xc60 because it's what I expect from a Volvo. The new cars are style over substance.

Poor build, crap seats, poor suspension, leaking windscreens, unreliable cheap sounding engines , dodgy electrics etc.

In terms of size, engines, etc. It's main rival is the Tiguan. If it's based on a golf or not makes no difference.

It's obviously in the same class.

Any one who thinks this is in the class of the f pace or new Range Rover are deluded.

I am not blinkered regarding Volvo and was very critical of our new XC 90 which we ultimately sold but I have recently been out and driven my brother in laws new one and it is a vast improvement over our early production version, to such an extent I considered getting another before opting for the vast space of the Caravelle.

The new Tiguan is a very poor car and totally overpriced. We have owner 2 of the MK 1 Tigs and my wife loved them but she hates the new one. In SEL form it rolls around corners ridiculously or in R line it crashes heavily on the smallest bump. The 150 and 190 engines are flat, I haven't driven the 240. Despite 4 motion the front wheels slip terribly under acceleration as admitted by the dealer the Four motion system is now set to remain in Front Wheel Drive as long as possible to aid economy/emissions. The new VW seats are very hard and narrow and become uncomfortable after an hours drive. Road noise is shocking and when you look closely the quality is a marked drop over VW of the past.

Despite the flaws with the 4 pot only policy Volvo is clearly leagues ahead of
VAG at present and despite my previous concerns I am really looking forward to trying the new XC60.
I couldn't believe how poor the Xc90 d5 was.

I would expect the new Xc60 to share the characteristics of the new Tiguan for the same reason. Economy/emissions.

The seats in the xc90 are hard and not a patch on my xc60 and the suspension was awful for such a expensive car, so they will probably be issue's in the xc60 too.

The fact is. For the price, you can buy a significantly better car.
