Default Exterior door handle not working

The front passenger side door handle - outside - has just partly broken on my V40, it's still attached but the right hand side part of the hinge snapped so it's only attached on the left side. It's now not possible to open the door from the outside.

Is this an easy thing to replace - and can I just buy the chrome piece, or do I need the whole unit (i.e. including the body coloured recessed trim)?

I have had the inside of the door apart before, to replace the central locking motor, I presume this will need to come off to access the external handle too?

You only have to replace the chrome bit. Or if you find one in the same colour as your car, you can then get one with the suround.

If you have already took the door apart, then it will be fairly easy for you to do the door handle. All you need to do, is to unhook the metal rod where it connects to the door lock and then undo the 2 10mm bolts securing the door handle.

I have a couple of spare door handles in case you can't find one at your local scrappies or online

Replacement handle arrived today, thanks Alex. I will 'get it on' at the weekend, so to speak.

LOL: My drivers door failed to open the other day.....the left hand connection broke.
Back home, drilled it 5mm bit and stuck a wood screw in it and flush fit.
That'll do!

Finally had a day at home without any rain so managed to replace the handle - easy, but a little time consuming. The only tricky part was getting the replacement handle back into the housing, before putting it back into the door. A slightly stubborn spring needed gentle easing back into place!

A wood screw would of course be a much quicker fix.

Thanks again to Alex for his help.
