Amazon: Removing door chrome and window runners

Evening all,

I'm stripping down my new pair of rear doors for re-painting. What is the best way to remove the exterior chrome strip under the windows? I can't work out how they're affixed?

The same goes for the window channels in the window frame, how do they come out?

The stainless steel door finishers are held on by hidden clips, just slide something unger the trim and gently lift

The window channels in the top of the window where the glass sits when the window is closed are glued in, i just pullerd mine out with long nosed pliars

Hello grantbennett2, On the 122 are the window side channels also just glued in and removed by pulling directly out. This is on my agenda for next Spring. Thanks, Russ

My sides and top were in one piece, a gentle tug with some pliers and they came out..

TAIIL, Thankyou for the info. I have looked at various parts suppliers and didn't get that impression. Perhaps when replacing they are installed piecemeal. Russ

Some of the window drop channels are plain,and some have a stainless trim fixed to it.The ones with the trim usually self destruct when being removed.The plain type can be bought by the metre as a land rover series two or three part,very much cheaper than buying in cut lengths from Volvo specialist.

Hi - have you done it yet? It is worth mentioning that getting the trim off below the windows is dicey. In order to pry upwards, you have to lever downward on the paint - I know I did mine and figured it out, but I believe there were a few chips of paint sacrificed. Getting them back on is also very tight. I have one piece I have not put back on because I lost one of the clips. A week or so ago I found it again, but am loath to put it back on. I'd like to hear from someone who can describe how to do it.

The window channel will come out if you are careful. When you buy the channel material, you will have to cut it, which is not fun with a hacksaw - better to use an angle-grinder. I put mine back in with a bit of non-hardening glue, like rubber cement - just roll up the window to hold them in for awhile.

By "drop channels" are you referring to the pieces which cradle the window front and rear, or the piece which cradles the window at the bottom and moves as the window is cranked. Thanks, Russ
