Valve stem seal wear vanished after the 1990's in my view as technology found better seals it's just not something you see any longer. It might happen if the head is allowed to get very hot though.
There has been lots of posts on here about oil consumption, I think there's some truth in the theory that the engine's never actually 'ran in' from the factory as they were filled with fully synthetic oil. Engine tuners and race teams will run-in an engine on a lesser mineral oil to get all the mating surfaces to bed in and then switch to fully synthetic after a few thousand miles. Good luck with your investigations though, there's also some doubt about the crankcase breathing so would be interesting to know what's causing this.
