Default V60 D5 Twin Engine .. Charging problems

I've had my car for about 18 months, and until the last couple of weeks have never had an issue charging it.

I only charge at home with a tethered Chargemaster charger. I'm finding that the car is now regularly refusing to charge. The yellow light stays lit and nothing happens. The charging sockets seem clean. If I leave the car for several hours, or overnight, it will usually then charge OK.

I currently don't have another electric car to rule out an issue with the charger itself.

Anything else I can check? Any tips on how to make it start charging?

More than likely a faulty on board charger . However I would not advise you tinkering with anything near orange cables , could be a life or death issue .
The dealer will diagnose it for you they have qualified high voltage technicians .

do you not have a 3 pin charger to try?

wouldn't anything to do with the charging system be under warranty. I don't know if its just battery or the entire electric drivetrain / charging system that is covered tho

I do have one. In fact, I took it outside last night, but thought I'd give the tethered charger one last chance, and lo and behold, it started working.

Maybe the threat of being usurped by a more puny charger did the trick!

Had a long run out today to the Lake District, and upon returning home the car started charging first time. It seems very hit and miss as to whether it works or not. I should probably keep a log of when it happens.

I suspect I will end up taking it in for a warranty investigation ... but I can foresee the dealer having the car for a few days and reporting that they can find no fault ....

Are you saying if you plug it in and the light stays yellow, you can leave it overnight and it would have started charging by itself at some point during the night?

I've had this issue as well but not very often. I've unlocked it pulled the plug out and then put it back in again. You hear a click on the charger and then that's it.

What I've found strange is that sometimes you hear a very loud fan coming from it when charging. It happens if I charge after a long journey. I hope that's normal. I take it the battery needs cooling.

Check that one out before getting into any further speculations.

A threaded cable isn't really the most sturdy option.

Yes, the light stays yellow. I've left it for a few hours and it has either been still yellow or gone out (can't recall which) but it has never spontaneously started to charge. Have not yet left it overnight.

When it has been playing up, I've done the unlock - remove cable - reinsert cable - lock cycle, to no avail.

I've also had the fan start when charging, I also assume this is normal ... my wife's Zoe often did the same thing

Not sure what you mean about a threaded cable? Did you mean "tethered"? I have a tethered cable on a Chargemaster wall box which should probably be more reliable than my 3-pin socket one.

But yes ... Next time it happens I will be interested to see if the other cable works. The car has behaved itself for the last 2 days!

I would guess that's a charger issue?

both our leaf and our v60 start charging within about 30 seconds of plugging in.

I have a few times not pushed the lead in far enough on the charger end and its given the yellow light as it hasn't made a connection properly, I assumed its the comms pin not getting enough contact causing an error?
