Question good place for parts?

Hi all.

Here I am, frying in the glasshouse of the job, thinking that rather soon I will gave to pull out the spanners and do what needs to be done.

And what needs to be done are rear brakes, full set, tyres, and at least a check of front suspension (loose bushings etc)

Thanks to previous help of members here, the tyres won't be much of issue- just find, buy, fit.

But brakes..

I've checked a well known European cars parts site, and set of

-rear drumdiscs
-rear pads
-handbrake shoes

Comes to around £170 (maybe less if I find some discount code), for parts that may well have quality of warm butter..

So.. What are other places/shops worth a look?

I have to balance price vs quality, and I'm actually sorry to say, but price is important, so even if I can get same stuff as from euros, but cheapper, I may (or not) go for it.

Car is 2003 V70 170bhp petrol (the one that turbo never ever breaks) with lotsa miles on it..

Any thoughts much appreciated.

If you fancy a trip up the A1 Lakes in Wyboston is still open - the last of the Volvo only breakers. Give Barry or bernard a call on 07958 750406 / 07957881496. They will certainly have the parts, but you might be expected to bring your spanners.

I was thinking new parts for this job.

But I have to say that I'm very happy with information you provided- it will be invaluable in next few months.

Thank you.

I’ve never had a problem with Eurocarparts. I generally use Pagid discs and pads. There’s a 35% discount on at the moment, (same most weekends) you missed the 50% brakes discount midweek. I use click and collect.

What I meant to say was I've never had a problem with Pagid brakes from Eurocarparts.

Done.
Just half hour ago washed my hands.
Eventually I had an email from europarts with 45% discount code
Bought pads(Richer), shoes(Pagid), discs (Richer) al for some £73.
Later to be told by cheshired5 to avoid anything non Volvo branded.

Too late to change. I had today and only today to get it done, and I did.
So I fitted what I had, plus new set of springs/quick buy on eBay (thank you cheshired5/ youtube SirRob)
Having wheels off I decided to clean them and put some cheap wax, just to slow down dust build up.
Now I know why for last month I had to top up air in one of rear wheels.. I thought it would be had valve or tyre not sitting on the rim properly.. Nope.. Cracked rim..

Ehh.. I have 3 spare ones in the garden (remains from time not long ago when I had similar crack and found only bundle of 4 wheels on eBay)

And since I was going to change tyres next.. I'll just speed it up a bit.

Yes, I'm preparing Welma for few miles this season.

As far as I can say at the moment, and excluding everyday use, several runs home<=>stansted airport (first one in a week, parents in law coming over, grrrr), then London<=> Lands End for camping, then London=>Disneyland=>Zakopane=>Lublin=>Augustow=>Lo ndon..

Will see what comes after..

Thanks for all the replies, if not this time, they'll come very handy next time I'll grab set of spanners and make my wife very very angry with having a cuppa with filthy hands

Glad your sorted Thomas but funny how the world over wives object to dirty hands and tea cups/ mugs. I have to have a working mug and a best mug. Do not EVER get them confused and use in the wrong situation.

Personally I've never found euro car parts much use, either they don't have what I want or don't know what I want, I once asked for 0-30 A5B5 oil, Oooo we got oil dunno if we got that. Last time I darkend their door. In comparison the independent around the corner is brilliant, knowledgeable staff and bends over backwards to help.

Paul.

Glad you're all sorted.Personally I've bought things like brake parts, filters, thermostats and oil from ECP[one of their shops is a mile and a half from home]using click and collect,I've never had a problem with them. Some stuff I'll happily get from a breakers[but never brake parts]while other stuff;crank sensor for my Omega for instance]will be dealer only.
