C70 Convertible - White Smoke
Hi just after some advice, bought C70 Convertible on a 58 Plate back in November, had a problem within a month where smoke coming from the engine. Turned out to be fuel hose leaking on to manifold, got fixed no problem.
Started happening again last week although not straight away only when going about 40 ish down dual carriage way, pulled up had a look in engine by the time this was done 30 secs at max no sign of anything/no fuel to be seen unlike the first time.....just took to garage and then have said the problem is the catalytic converter needs replacing....I have to take their word for it as I dont know...just thought anyone got any views haven`t had cost yet is it expensive job ? Thanks Dave |

You'd need to say what engine you have?
It is unusual for a catalytic converter to 'fail' unless it was shocked by being dunked in a deep puddle when really hot; can sometimes make the inner core separate from its casing, it'd start rattling though. Diesel 'DPF' filters can block and cause back pressure and leaks/smoke but this should have been warned about on the dash with an emissions fault before getting to that stage.

As said, we need to know what engine you have. Also is the white smoke from the exhaust or under the bonnet??
If it's from the exhaust then it could be steam - how is the coolant level in your car? In any case there must be more going on for anyone sensible to conclude that it's the catalytic converter.
