Default What do you like ...........

Reading in the 200 section I thought I would post up what you or others think about your 700 series Volvo .

As some of you may have read one person told me my 740 was crap lol .. yes I have got over that rather pathetic comment from him . What do you like about your 740 , for me its the fact there is nothing else really on the road that looks like it . It feels incredibly well built even now after 20 years .

It may infact I know its not the quickest car on the road , but I have total faith in that wherever im travelling to it will get me there in armchair comfort .

What do you all think of your 740's ..... what do others say about yours ?

Well I've got a 960 now, which is excellent, but there are loads of electronics on it which being a fan of old classics, just means more to go wrong !!!

But About 10 years ago, I bought a 740 gl estate as a "stop gap" between cars for £700.

I had that car for eight years and it never once let me down.

Sadly 2 years ago it failed its MOT requiring welding estimated at £500, so just did not make economic sense.

I actually drove it to the scraperswere it "weighed in" at £110.

A sad day indeed.

Still.........only paid £750 for the 960......and its mint......so heres to a further 8 years (+) of volvoing

Hey Mikey, you only have to have a little trawl through my posts to see what I think about the 7s!

Mind you, as for it looking like nothing else on the road, have to disagree with you there as I've always felt that there was more than a smattering of Cadillac Coupe de Ville about the 740.

I personally love my volvo 740, though i've owned it for 7 months now, i bought it for £350 from an old guy who owned it as a stop gap car whilst his other one was under repair, it stood around a lot so it needed a massive wash wax and polish, a new back window, as it had a crack in the old one, new brake pads in the rear, new coolant bottle cap and a set of nice second hand alloys with great tyres for a bargain, mended a few rust holes, changed a few bulbs, etc.. has never let me down once!

I'm on two minds on selling it, though, i'm on a part time wage and the road tax and insurance is bleeding me dry, so she's SORN'd on the drive at the moment covered in snow..asleep, hopefully to wake up and get her on the road again at some point.

Best car i've ever owned yet!

I love the shape of the car, it reminds me of the 1990 Oldsmobile Delta 88

or even this pimped up 1988 toyota cressida - http://static.cargurus.com/images/si...pic-32488.jpeg

I don't know why people say the volvo is an ugly square thing....i always say i rather drive this tank than to be found dead in something like a renault or peugeot....yuk!!

what I like at the moment about my 760 (not quite a 740)

: Digging it out of the snow it's been sitting in for almost a week and despite -5 degrees C temp and half an inch of ice under the cars snow topping it starts instantly and the heaters are piping hot after a few minutes! not bad for a 22 year old car!!!

What do I like about my 740? The space, the comfort and the engineering! It's an amazingly practical estate, I can drive it all day and still walk at the other end, and I'm always impressed when I work on it by the heavy-duty mechanicals. It's almost as though Volvo engineered it as a light truck than a car: feels like, if maintained, it'll go on forever, and judging by the miles that some people on here have achieved, that's probably true. I also like the lack of complicated electronics, the fact that it seems to pass its MoT every year without problems, the fact you can still get parts easilty (cheers Rufe!). And it's quirky enough to have a bit of character.

Uhh... It's the other way round. That model Cadillac came out in the fall of 1985. The 740 was already in production.

What do you like ...........

I like the fact that i drive a car manufactured by engineers not accountants in suits.
I like the fact that it cost buttons to buy and maintain.
I like the fact that i do not have to pay interest on a depreciating asset.
I like the fact i am comfortable enough to drive it, smile and sometimes laugh at those who are prepared to pay ridiculous amounts of cash on a Ford.

Just like..........

£55 to programme tow bar software.
Passenger Side Airbag for a S60 or V70/XC70 £607.84
V70 Vacuum pump £362.70 + VAT
F/ wheel bearing 99 Volvo C70 T5 £152.00 + VAT
XC90 D5 SE Rear Silencer - £327.20 + VAT
