I had a "OFF" message on my radio (retro fitting to older Volvo radio/cassette) and entered wrong code.
Checked all the usual post on the internet about putting ignition on for around 2 hours then a guy in the USA said remove fuse number 7 ( 20 amp radio) and refit to clear the "off" message.
I put the ignition to position 1, turned on the radio..message "OFF" displayed, then removed fuse and replaced it, got back in the car and "code" was displayed, entered 4 digits and radio works.
Worth trying.

Radio is in the interior fusebox, should be a 20A (yellow) microfuse

If you can't find the fuse, or not sure which one? it's usually an easy enough job to pull the radio out & pull the multiplugs out of the back .

hi all. after 2 months of trying , got my stereo up and running today , whey hey. I have read on here that many people ask for their code. well no more. there is secret menu that actually shows you the code for the stereo. its on youtube Volvo hu series off prolem 1.46. press auto and turn on still pressing auto button takes you into the menu . where I was going wrong I pressed off button on stereo , don't do this . I actually disconnected stereo leads at back, wait 10 seconds reconnect then input code comes up put code in STEREO ON. so I think there is no 2 hour wait reset either . hope this helps someone and save time and some money aswell

Just bought a v40 2 days ago with the same off message, managed to get round it was by pressing power off so the screen goes blank, then whilst holding Down the news button hit the power on button
