XC90 How to prevent dimming of instrument panel?
Have a 2018 XC90
So with headlights on auto when the headlights go on the lighting of the two instrument panels is automatically reducing luminosity (dimming) I would like to prevent that but I cannot find how to do it Have searched the various manuals and checked several time the settings but cannot find anything about this Last edited by RiccardoPC; Oct 15th, 2019 at 21:20. In the first instance, have you found the dashboard dimming control to the right of the steering wheel? Rotate that and see if helps at all.

Saw that (it is on the left for me as it is a LHD) but did not try it, will try it even if it should not prevent the dimming but maybe he can compensate for that

So if the thumbwheel is at max then the flip between day and night mode will not be that noticable. Interestingly the daytime/nighttime switch of the instrument lighting is not necessarily as the same time as the headlights switch on. On a rainy M1 today my dash went to daytime mode but my headlights remained on (I saw then in the reflection in the back of the van infront).

so it works but does it mean I cannot prevent the dimming and every time it happens I have to adjust the luminosity?

I thought I had posted a comment but it seems to have got lost.
On my MY 17 V90 theres a senor on the dashboard in the centre near the windscreen. . Covering this with a blue badge parking permit causes the lights to go into night mode. Full marks to Volvo Watford for phoning me back after I had booked it in to be looked at and asking a few questions. |

I don't know if it is a good idea to cover the LED in the dashboard.
It does more than sensing ambient light, it's also connected to the airco.
