Some people, huh!
Once bitten, four times shy from now on.
Last year I 'sold' a Volvo 164 car to a guy who wanted it for spares (it was once my day car) and spent lots of time and effort in showing it to him. He was very keen, saw it at least twice - then completely vanished. A friend of his told me he was still around so I knew he wasn't dead (!) but he never even had the manners to tell me thanks but no thanks. Last winter I dug out some Volvo 164 parts for a lister who lives abroad, took photos and even carted them to the post office to get postal costs. He mailed back to say a relative would call for them - then silence again. I mailed back asking when rellie would be calling for them - and he calmly said he'd bought them from elsewhere....... The air round me turned blue. More recently I dug out from my loft an early PV hubcap that a 'wanter' begged me for at a show, photographed it and waited..... I see the same car at another show - and again he couldn't be bothered to tell me he bought elsewhere. If he could afford a new one (it looked new) why did he pester me for a 2nd hand one? And again no manners re telling me he no longer needs. Then recently yet again: another lister wanted fuel injection parts, so like a mug took them off my car in readiness for him, and photographed it all for him. I again got postal prices, but then was told he wanted the entire car for parts so I got prices from a car-mover I know to ship it to him and arranged for the owner of the adjacent car to move it in preparation: the entire cost would be less than the cost a European supplier would sell him just a recon unit for. We did this - and today I'm calmly told he managed to find what he wants locally - after all our effort. Henceforth I won't bother to even reply to anybody who wants what I can help out with: I am only a retired hobbyist although I have many buildings full of old Volvo parts - not a shopkeeper, so simply won't bother with 'wanters' on here any more. It appears manners on Forums no longer exist. P |

I hear this all the time, it’s lack of manners and a back bone to say sorry I’ve found something local. I advertised some V50 accessories on Facebook and the amount of complaining about the shipping costs was stupid. I sold some Genuine V50 HD rubber Mats at rock bottom price. He bitched about the shipping cost so I pointed out that the mats were heavy and if he went to Volvo he’d have been £25 out of pocket. I sent some pics of the packaging and then he accepted the price. They’re absolute knobs, I had the same with selling the roof bars until he received them in excellent condition because if packed them securely. I had a message off him with a photo of them fitted to his car, a happy boy.
The internet allows people to be complete dicks, I haven’t got time for it., TT

There are these people. There always were. But there are also plenty folks with manners. "Always, there are greater and lesser persons than oneself. . . "

Years ago you'd see something advertised and then have to phone the guy up, introduce yourself, try not to sound like a raving lunatic, and negotiate 'man to man' and eventually shake hands on it. Now you can cut all that out and press delete, back, whatever and the seller gets the silent knock back. See also: people who sell their cars to WBAC etc.... Recently we viewed a rental apartment for our Son and I could tell the landlord was used to people wasting her time, saying all the right things, and then vanishing, it was the perfect place for him so I stated clearly that if we decide on something then it's set in stone and we won't let her down, the relief on her face was so noticeable.

Same (in many cases, not all) with steering wheels. As soon as someone is behind one, manners go right out the window. People behave in outrageous ways on the road they wouldn't dream of in person.
