I walk past a Jensen Interceptor quite often with my dog. That name makes me smile every time I see it.. I drive a Superb. I'm still slightly embarrassed every time I say it. I love the car, no embarrassment there, but the name 😳😳

The most recent disastrous name I think is the Vauxhall Adam!
Adam!! It's a bit like asking a man if he'd be willing to buy a Ford Susan. A good classic name to me was always the Ford Capri.

Agreed Adam was a rather unfortunate choice, but it was so named after the founder of Opel cars.
Mercedes actually started out being a model name in the Benz catalogue. How about [Borgward] Isabella. |

Datsun Sunny! Best name ever!!
I'm joking of course, although I do have a soft spot for them. But surely Cortina must've seemed like a really daft name at the time, I dunno, I was just a kid, but there must have been a transition at some point where it went from being the name of a town into a staple diet of british roads. First I learned it was a town was watching a James Bond film, and I can't even remember which one, haha! |

Hello All,
Interesting and nostalgic thread :-) I think my personal favourite has to be the Jensen Interceptor. The car just looked years ahead of its time and would not have looked out of place in a episode of Thunderbirds. The name really matched the car and the time. I also like the names Lotus Elise and Plymouth Fury (anyone remember Christine?). Not a car, I know, but the Rolls Royce Merlin sounds far better than the Allison V1710 it replaced in the P51D Mustang during WW II. Perhaps Volvo should start looking to their Norse heritage for names. You could rename the XC90 as the Volvo Odin? or a Polestar V60 as the Volvo Hammer? Admittedly Skidbladnir (Norse longship of the gods) might be a bit difficult for the marketing folks to get their heads and tongues around. Any other suggestions out there?
