Default Weather Warning in Drivers Display?

Recently, while driving in the Netherlands, I received a weather warning in the drivers display.
What appeared, was a rectangular box, just below the Road Sign Recognition speed limit icon.
In this box, were clouds with rain, tapering down from left to right. (The weather conditions at the time, was heavy rain and very strong gusts of wind).

Over 3 years of owning the V90 and driving in all sorts of weather, in the U.K. and mainland Europe, I have never received this type of warning before.
Is this something new?

Is this not the speed limit sign recognition? Don’t the Dutch like the Germans have variable speed limits for wet conditions, the speed sign being as you describe, having a rectangular rain sign below the round speed sign.

I am not aware of different speed limits in NL due to rain but for example in Luxembourg there is 130kmh highway limit in dry conditions and 110 limit on wet roads. When I am driving here in rain, the road sign info shows 110 limit with a rectangle box below picturing rain (probably very similar to what you have). Otherwise it shows 130. Could it be that you have experienced something similar?

Technically it is very simple thing but I still think it is cool that road sign info in Volvo is weather dependent. And maybe even time dependent (although now I am thinking that it is probably not...).

Tem, have you had a recent car service at Volvo?
I think it may be part of the new 'connected safety ' feature as I got a couple of symbols in my HUD recently, a risk of skidding one (the car with the wriggly lines) and at the same time what looked like a tree in a second triangle.
At the time i was in a damp, forest area on a wet road, although I didn't spot any Volvos in the ditch!
Just a thought.
Paul.

Yes.
Had 3 year service on 23rd September and got the Connected Safety feature, which is active.
Not had any warnings, regarding Hazard lights or Slippery roads, though.

Connected Safety?
I note that some have to activate it, every time they start the car?
I just swiped the screen to the left and selected the icon, which is just below the Reduced Guard, on my car.
Checked it several times and it is always green.

I'll put my money on this.

I can't imagine it's overly complex to combine inputs from the RSI camera and the rain sensor..

Yes, mine stays active since it was applied last week on 3rd service, I'm puzzled why some seem to lose it when switching the car off.

This can happen only if the driver's profile is protected. Whatever option you press will not be remembered if the profile is protected.

I had a similar experience when driving in France in June, tem.

It happened to be pouring down at the time, and I thought that somehow the car recognised that it was raining and therefore the speed limit is reduced to 110kph.

There was a lot of rain during the trip, but I must admit that I didn’t see the rain symbol appear again!

The warning that I got was a rectangular box, as bottom left, in #6, but it was patchy clouds with proper rain drops and not dashes.
