I know it’s not very scientific but I’ll take this any day of the week.

Granted I was going downhill (south) on the M1 for about 20 miles , with cruise on (58mph) & pilot assist.
The return journey was 45mpg but shorter on the motorway.

I was on the A1 going North from Berwick upon Tweed to Dunbar, similar speed.

All the naysayers will (correctly) call BS but I am mega happy when I get over 70mpg on my 43 miles commute in my S90.

V60 T5
Distance 103.4 miles
Duration 1:46h
Consumption 2.5 gal (40.9mpg)
Average speed 59mph (A3 and M25 clockwise)

Not as good as a diesel, but definitely acceptable.

Went to Liverpool on Sunday in heavy traffic through Aberystwyth, Llangurig, Oswestry and so on. Back on Monday in unbelievably less traffic but through Bala to Dolgellau to Aberystwyth and 20 miles beyond.

Rather pleased with 42mpg over 280 far from easy miles. On the Sunday we actually did the 143 miles non stop in three hours thirty minutes at 43.5mpg, from home to Speke by John Lennon airport. Spent Monday morning at the Land Rover Experience centre at Halewood just up the road.

wow exceptional mpg , imperial?
And your engine is still very tight as it’s less that 1.5k miles on it.
My best was 6.3lt/100km but with mixed driving -no highway, and 1/3 of the route town center.
1 hour , 37.7km, 6.3 lt/100km (posted pics in another thread)

What was your average speed in highway?
I find it that the car runs lower consumption in town than in highway.
Overall, can you share your impressions with the B5?
Did you own a D5 before to compare it and do you find it powerful enough for your needs?

You will be hard pressed to find a flatter, straighter piece of road with less junctions and roundabouts of course. Ideal conditions for maximum economy.

Um, yes. Downhill all the way with a following wind? I seldom bettered that with a Panda 1.3 diesel driven for maximum economy which is about half the mass and on skinny tyres.

Next time you manage it, or better, take a picture of the dash readout so that we can all be amazed.
