The only cables where the connector to the light cluster, one I could see going into a small box mounted on the roof and a cluster of about 5 cables, all stuck together and glued to the headlining.

The diagram seems to indicate the mirror cable is tucked beyond the visor clip, but I couldn't locate anything.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

The little green connector is clipped to the left side of the mirror shaft ,

Fitted one in my old c30 and the cable was stuck to the opposite side of the headlining to what the Vida instructions show. Have a good feel about as it’s up there.

Thanks for various suggestions - unless I've really gone loopy, there's no 'extra' cable present. The ones that are there I can just about trace to the visor lights or the bluetooth microphone. Is it possible that on the R-Design with no rain sensor (and presumably with the mirror feed too), Volvo just saved a few extra bob and didn't add to the loom?

However, there may be another way I guess. There are three connections on the mirror - I'm guessing +12V, Ground, and something else. If all that's need is a 12v supply, then it could be possible to splice into the overhead light cluster and pick up a ground there too.

It's not going to be that simple is it??

Thanks again!

Trust me, it’s up there 100%.

The 3 wires are live, ground and the third is wired to the reverse circuit so the mirror “clears itself” when reverse is selected.

OK - thanks to both! As it happens the old dear is going into my Volvo specialist on Wednesday for a different matter - I'll ask them to locate it - save my sanity.

Hi guys,

I've bought a dimming mirror but not sure about fitting it, or if I have the right one!

This is the current fitting:

Not sure how to remove it.

And this is the mirror that I have:

Doesn't look to me like it will fit.

Can anyone help?

I replaced my mirror this week in my v50 2008 by a self dimming mirror from a v50 2004.

I noticed the connector was not a 100% fit to my car.
I suppose maybe a difference with an without compass?

It was necessary to adapt the connector to fit on the mirror.
And then you have indeed 3 wires. Ground, +12v and sort of data wire.
I need to cut the data wire to get a proper working mirror.

So now it has only +12 and ground and it works like a charm.

Your images aren't showing up because the URLs you're using is to the page on google photos, and not to the actual image URL itself. However, I could see the URLs for the pages when I quoted your message to reply, so I was able to take a look.

The mirror you bought shows reference number 30744704 on the back, which is an auto dimming mirror for a C30, C70 (2006-), S40 V50 (2004-) (see here)

It looks to me that this is for the pre-facelift model (2004-2008)

From your image of your car interior (the position of the cigarette lighter in particular), it looks like you have the facelift model (2008-2012)

In which case you'd need one of these mirrors: https://www.volvopartshop.com/mirror...50-13475-p.asp

there's one for cars with the auto wiper rain sensor, and one for those without (switch using the dropdown), so you'd need to get the correct one. Obviously use that page to get the part numbers for buying second hand elsewhere. For cars with rain sensor is part number 31269666 and without is 31269665. I'm not sure which car you have, but you'll know yourself.

For future reference, the installation instructions for both are on this page

https://accessories.volvocars.com/en...CC-449513/2008

Edit: yannickc above says he used a 2004 mirror in a 2008 car, maybe he can talk you through what he did - looks like he had to do some modification.
