There's two part numbers for the auto dimming mirror with compass for 2008- models. One is for cars with rain sensor, and one for those without.

31269666 and 31269665 (use the dropdown on the following page to toggle between the two)

there's one for cars with the auto wiper rain sensor, and one for those without (switch using the dropdown), so you'd need to get the correct one. Obviously use that page to get the part numbers for buying second hand elsewhere. For cars with rain sensor is part number 31269666 and without is 31269665. I'm not sure which car you have, but you'll know yourself.

For future reference, the installation instructions for both are on this page

What happens if I buy the one with the rain sensor even though I don’t have a sensor? I’d like to upgrade it later this year so it would be ideal for me!
Cheers

..different cable/plug fitting and some 'internals' in mirror...

The 'without' has three wires, the 'with' has four and is a different shape.

Thanks. I don’t have a rain sensor this is confirmed unfortunately. I guess it’s not just a matter of buying a rain sensor and stick it up? Don’t seem to find any place to for it.
I reckon I just leave it as is. Grr...

The mirror you bought shows reference number 30744704 on the back, which is an auto dimming mirror for a C30, C70 (2006-), S40 V50 (2004-) (see here)

It looks to me that this is for the pre-facelift model (2004-2008)

From your image of your car interior (the position of the cigarette lighter in particular), it looks like you have the facelift model (2008-2012)

In which case you'd need one of these mirrors: https://www.volvopartshop.com/mirror...50-13475-p.asp

Edit: yannickc above says he used a 2004 mirror in a 2008 car, maybe he can talk you through what he did - looks like he had to do some modification.
Mine is actually pre-facelift. Though it was registered in 09 just before the facelift model came along.
Is it possible that they changed the design of the interior before they redesigned the exterior parts?

Edit: here is an image of the car just to show which model it is.
Maybe it will help, I'm not sure.

Found an image of one of these cars with an identical interior to mine with the same RVM as I have bought.

P.S phutyle, thanks for the link to the instructions.
I will try it this weekend. If it fits, then great, if not, someone on here may want and benefit from the mirror.

If you find your auto dimming rear view mirror with compass doesn't fit and if the part number is 31269666 I'd be interested in buying it as I have a facelift V50 2008 with auto rain sensor and would like a mirror like you have.

Thanks

It fits.
put it in the morning before going to work.
Just couldn't find the loom so I may need to take out the interior light to get to it.

After putting the new mirror on, I noticed it was loose and a bit wobbly.
On further inspection, it appears that in removing the old one and putting the new one on, the mount attached to the windscreen has become worn at the edges, making the grip slack.
Is there a way of removing this and putting a new one on? Or do I need to replace the windscreen?

I suppose maybe a difference with an without compass?

It was necessary to adapt the connector to fit on the mirror.
And then you have indeed 3 wires. Ground, +12v and sort of data wire.
I need to cut the data wire to get a proper working mirror.

So now it has only +12 and ground and it works like a charm.
Hey mate,

I did mine this afternoon.
It had a small piece of plastic sticking out of it that meant it would not fit in to the connector properly. I snipped this piece off with some nail clippers and it fit in fine. Is this what you were talking about?
But it doesn't seem to dim.
Any ideas?
