The 'buy back' option is the only way to go and some owners do quite well out of it!
I always remember in about 2000 when I needed a new screen for me car (I was 3rd party only) autoglass quoted about £400 which was twice everyone else.

They called a couple of days later and asked if I wanted to proceed and I said they were too expensive. They said that was the price to an insurer and that if I wanted it private it was half the cost.

So many people in the vehicle game getting fat from instance companies. No wonder we all pay so much.

I think that will probably be a write off I remember my friend having a really mint Peugeot 306 a few years back, someone keyed his doors only and they wrote the car off. Sad times. Keep us all updated

Well the good news is the other guy didn't want to go through insurance as he only had 2 weeks left on his first years policy, i have had two independent quotes and the guy has paid me to get the work done. Didn't really need courtesy car as have use of company van so thankfully this is all sorted now!

Many thanks for all your help.

A good result, should avoid your insurance recording a non fault claim which they would penalise you for too. Hopefully you didn't contact them at all...
