winter warmer squealing
It can also be having things like heated r window on, and extra elec load on the alternator makes a worn belt slip, have seen that before when colder weather appears..

Did your kit come with three bolts?
Because the bolts used on original 'fixed' tensioner pulley do not fit the new sprung loaded tensioner. If no bolts included, then you need to order 3x Flange Screw, Volvo part no. 30776069. You can see on the below diagram - bolts for old Tensioner (No.3) are different than for the new tensioner (No.10) Last edited by T5R92011; Nov 12th, 2021 at 16:02. |

Thanks for all the help on this.links appreciated but I had already bought the kit. Yes it did come with the 3 bolts.
Thanks for the diagram makes it much clearer. Honestly think this might be beyond my skills. Looks a bugger to get at |

The tensioner looks a lot easier than it was when I changed it on a P80 C70, just needs the bonnet open. Then the belts, just need to take off drivers side wheel and wheel arch liner.

It's not that difficult to get at, once the engine cover and belt is off. I don't think I needed anything other than basic tools.

OEM ford parts
The tensioner is from the ford parts bin, shared with the focus as a lot of the parts on these cars are.. pic of the gates part attached
these are the gates belt part nos (for a 2007 engine) 6PK1305 (Longer belt) 5PK705SF (short a/c pump streeetch belt) Curious that there must have been a fixed tensioner according to vida, has anyone ever seen one ? seems like a bad idea to me ! As others have said the aux belt is a pretty easy one as the tensioner is very accessible (unlike some engines) and doesnt need any special tools to release it.. Has anyone had experience of doing the stretch belt, there seem to be some tools but wonder what real life experience of getting one off is like .. |

My 2012 s40 came with the fixed tensioner. It started chirping on start up, worse in damp weather after about 50,000 miles, so I swapped it with the sprung tensioner. |

I'm planning on doing this in a few weeks. Mine is the original fixed tensioner and I'll swap it out with the kit from above. I don't suppose you know the torque specs for the 3 bolts? All the best James |
