I'm a Volvo and a BMW driver. Hence (according to stereotypes) not only am I a dull middle-aged square, but I also believe that I own the road, and have no regard for other drivers or their safety. And I'm a lightweight.
And I wonder why I have no friends......

i realise i'm probably pretty much on my own on this one - thats fine. would still be good to meet at a pub somewhere nice... alcohol free beer of course!
in any case, i made an initial enquiry with wild tracks. i asked them if any of their trails were suitable for a new xc60 AWD on summer tyres. they seemed to think there were a couple of places where it wouldn't be wise to go, but they could point those out and it would be easy to avoid them. they also said it wouldn't be necessary to carry out any modifications, skid plate, or winter tyres, for example. they also suggested they have instructors experienced in driving xc60's and can offer off-road tuition in my car. despite appearances, i try not to be a mug! as such, i aim to find out a great deal more about how much they do and do not know about the car, e.g. the haldex system, the AWTF-80 SC transmission, the pirelli tyres, ground clearance, undercarriage etc and it's suitability for their terrain. if anyone could helpfully point out anything else i might want to enquire about, i welcome your advice. since i said i was providing feedback to an xc60 owners club, they seem only to keen to deal with my questions and concerns! if things work out on a phone call, i will aim to drive up there sometime and check it out - think i can get there in about an hour with a tail wind. who knows, i may even be convinced to take their tuition... provided its not given by these guys... http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/fastshow...froaders.shtml will keep this thread appraised of progress. even if most are not that interested in going, i imagine some might be interested in how this turns out!

today i spoke to malcolm, one of the 2 instructors contracted to work at wild tracks. he's a lantra FBAASS assessor with a farmers accent to match. he seemed to know quite a bit the xc60. told me what i already knew about the eLSD, as well as a few other things. he told me he knew every bump and puddle at the site and would be able to advise what would and wouldn't be suitable. he's taken a 4x4 fiat panda around without any problems or damage. i aim to pay a visit within the next month or so. he's out middle of feb, so it will probably be when he returns.
not sure i'll be going as mad as this, but good to know this is what an xc60 is capable of in the right hands: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKFpBbzEbN8#t=1m32s anyway, anyone had any more thoughts about a meet somewhere else? ...apart from horsham! perhaps we should vote on a date and place?
