Default XC60 2nd Year Service - Ouch!!

As I live close to Maidstone, I had my XC60's 2nd year service at the local Volvo dealership.
The car has done 19,000 miles, not yet 2 years old (November it will be).
Quite frankly I am quite shocked at the price of £420. I guess that's the price for living in Kent? The engine oil alone cost £99.95+Vat. The only thing about the service that appealed to me was the Collect & Return facility.

The service reception, said when I queried the cost "well it is the big service, Sir!!". Really!!, how much will I be expecting to pay for the service that includes replacement of the belts?

Any good independent Volvo specialists in Kent please, anyone??

David

Why are you paying for a year 2 service?

I thought they all came with 3 years which you could extend to 5 at £100 per year?

WIM, I bought the car through Volvo Selekt, so didn't get any information on servicing schemes. In fact I'm not even sure if it was on offer?

Check out the Service Price Indicator.

Seems to suggest £390 for the South East for the two year service.
With hindsight (if it was available) the pre-paid service deal would have been a bargain.

Adding the cost of the 1st 2 services comes to well over £600. So fair play to Volvo for giving the 5 years for £500 service deal. Certainly a bargain for the people who bought the deal.

My main dealer service costs for XC60 D5 auto have been:
1st £272,
2nd £384,
3rd £310 + £45 MOT,
4th £396 + £45 MOT.
I think next year's will be Timing Belt change so expect much bigger bill. Will start saving now!

Thats stiff , especially the oil , you need 5.7 litres at retail price of £13 a litre max , often found at half that price elsewhere . supply your own oil .. 0w/30 A5/B5 Castrol edge for example ..

But how does that 'square' with the dealer running a 'fixed price service' programme ?
While we are on the subject, the other irritation is when a dealer charges several pounds for filling the washer fluid reservoir when it is already virtually full. Very cheeky. (If this has probably been discussed before, apologies.)

If they want your custom they will have to alter the bill in your favour ... try a couple more dealers and ask why the oil is so expensive and how many litres they charge for ...

Always supply your own oil. Never use the collect and return facility unless it's a lease car and unless you don't care about your engine and transmission being thrashed to within an inch of it's life. Check how much they charge first.

You're reasonably close to Charlwood Volvo. They'll give you a courtesy car if you need one. http://crvolvo.com/
