Default XC 60 remote start

Hey just wandering if anyone can give me info on the remote start. Is this a standard feature where it can be remote started from the key fob or do I need to have Volvo on call and use it from the app ? Been trying to read up but can't find anything difinative that tells me. Apologies if it's s stupid question but this is my first Volvo coming from VW and BMW ( not sorry to leave BMW) Just the remote start will be handy for my Mrs getting the car defrosted in the morning while trying to sort the wee guy out etc.

I believe it's illegal in the U.K. Some posted the specifics but your not allowed to have the engine running when not in the vehicle.

Yeah just though would of been good she could of started it in the house to defrost or whatever, as she will go out and open it and run it on the drive anyway before she gets in it.

Neither does mine, in fact neither of my XC60s have had this and as there isn't a fuse for a heating element but there are fuses for everything else on the car that is further evidence that there isn't such a heater fitted in the UK.

I asked the remote starting question some time ago, specifically because (in theory) you could get a European dealer to 'switch this on' through VIDA. The response seemed to be that as easily as it could be switched on, the UK dealer could accidentally (or deliberately) switch it off. It is a UK insurance restriction, although I believe the F-Pace has this because there is an additional built-in level of security to satisfy the insurers. Perhaps Arianne may comment on this.

It isn't insurance that is the problem, it is the legislation of the country that prevents it

It is illegal under the RTA and CUR to leave a vehicle idling unnecessarily and this is explained in the Highway Code. You can be fined under the Vehicle Emissions for leaving a vehicle idling - even at traffic lights!
