Roof rack options for non-rail V70?
Looking to source a roof rack for a 2006 v70 without the factory rails, preferably aero bars. Anyone know of a good solution? The Thule website doesn’t seem to think they do a compatible set.
Thanks |

These days roof bags seems to be a popular choice, the missus got one for her car and it works well.. you put the rubbery mat on the roof then the bag, and the straps go through the door openings. Depends what you need the rack for of course but for camping bits etc is perfect

Budget plays in too.
I had rails (Euro Rails?) installed on my first V70. The cross bars have been used on two subsequent V70's which came with rails. |

We’ve had a bag in the past, but we’ll be using a box quite a bit for big trips, so want to get the proper kit this time.
Really don’t want to have to install the euro rails, despite having some cross bars in the garage already which would fit them. |

dose your car have the threaded inserts in the roof in the door shuts? racks can be fitted but you are limited by the opening when you use this type of rack.

Yes it does Simmy, there two cutouts in the seal on the roof trim, and the threads in there.
Vida has helped me out with the Volvo part number for the rack for cars without the rails. I’ll try and source one if there’s not an aftermarket equivalent. |

im sure the one i had was a thule one . visit halfords to view a catalogue most thule cross rails are inter changable 2 types wing bar or square its just the foot packs which vary to fit different makes / models there is also a company called the roof rack exchange where folk trade in old racks when they change cars . might be worth a look.

For something large which generates a lot of wind resistance they are not a good idea. We used to use them when hiring cars abroad for transporting kayaks, but it was fraught with problems. The kayaks would move , and grains of sand and dirt would get between the bag and the roof and mark the paintwork. Luckily my V70 has roof rails so I can carry my kayaks in relative safety.

I have a set of XC70 silver roof rails for sale if you’re interested, same as the black V70 ones but a nice anodised silver colour.

it leaves the boot space free for the bulky/heavy stuff like the tent and in our case the inflatable kayak, which isn't as good as rigid I'll admit, but it works |
