205ps D5 2500miles. On a long journey staying legal getting 43-44mpg avg on the computer. Put this up to more like 80-85mph and that drops to 36-37mpg. Guess its the aerodynamics wasting the fuel.

Around town /shorter journeys getting low 30s.

I am a light footted driver so am abit disappointed.

Thinking of a RICA remap to help. Did this to my previous V50 D5 and got much better economy ad more power.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Mostly around town driving with two 98 mile trips since new.
I have noticed the average mileage has gone up from 25mpg when new, so hopefully will go up further as the mileage mounts up.

around town its 27-29 mpg,40 mpg seems very optimistic to me,great car better then the audi, had one of these last

It does spend its total live in London traffic doing trips of less than 5 miles at a time.
I am retired and only do mainly short runs except for when I touring around the country pulling a 1600Kg caravan. Like MrT I am only averaging 26 mpg, also low annual mileage about 7000 miles.
I expect if I was doing a higher mileage on motorways and the like, I would also be getting into the mid 30s

Hmmm. I currently get 34mpg from my 2.0 tfsi VAG petrol. Was hoping for closer to 40 from the xc. Test drive may sway it, the r design was lovely to sit in.

go for the Rdesgin, its the best car I've had, really smooth to drive and the d5 engine has a lovely sound to it on acceleration.
we tested out the audiQ5 and the xc60,my wife was a big fan of the Q5 and took some persuading to even look at the xc but she also loves it now.
the xc was brilliant in the recent snow and ice here,a good 8 inch's,never got stuck once just ploughed right through it,i doubt you would regret buying one, take the plunge!

Merry Xmas to you all.

We have had our D5 R Design now for 6,000 miles and cannot get above 31.8 mpg commuting regularly 50 miles per day - this is on the computer average consumption.

Bit disappointed with this bearing in mind the 40 mpg quoted.

Prior to ordering our car, used an XC60 ES D3 for 4 days and this ran at 38 mpg so 31.8 for heavier and more powerful vehicle sounds about right.

Had ordered the SE Lux until driving the ES which I found a bit wallowy and disconnected in terms of feel from the road for our driving style. Changed order to R Design and much happier with responsiveness.

Just got my 2010 xc60 2.4 Drive manual having just had its 108k service. The car is doing 52-53 mpg on a motorway run of 50 miles and returns about 40 mpg around the town.
