WiFi receptiion in the car from the house network
I would like to be able to get the car (when on the drive) to connect to the WiFi networks I have in the house. The iPhone picks up the networks when adjacent to the car but the car does not pick them up.
Questions are: Where is/are the aerials that receive WiFi signals in the car are they in the cab (so as to pick up WiFi from the iPhone) how do the Volvo garages connect the car to their own network for sw updates. Is there a ethernet connection socket in the car that a cable can be plugged into Thanks for any clues

It would be easier to either move your router or fit an access point nearer to where your car is.

I agree but I was trying to avoid buying a length of ethernet cable and another wifi transmitter - if I did that then I could have the transmitter in the car for the data transfer, the other issue is the need for the car engine to be running if the data transfer is longer than about 15 minutes.

connect your phone to the wifi then connect the car to its personal hotspot? would save messing, otherwise agree might have to move your router closer to the area where the car is or purchase a second access point

That's not technically possible.

Put an intelligent battery charger on the car to stop draining the battery Place guarddogs around the car so noone steals it as the keys will be in the ignition Let the car update PS: I do mine in a garage, let it update for over 3hrs, key in, on ACC, everything off, car locked, and battery charger fitted. No problems.

Possible solutions?
Quote:
Many Wi-fi networks these days are dual 2.4 & 5GHz - if you try to connect using the higher 5GHz band I don’t think that the in-car network can connect at that frequency so suggest you use the lower older standard 2.4GHz channel. Another angle is to check/change your Wi-fi network’s encryption security setup, there was another user with similar issues over a year ago who had set his network to the highest setting of WPA2 + AES, I believe when he changed dropped it down a level he was able to instantly connect his Volvo to his house Wi-fi network. Let me if the above “clues” provide a solution.

I have 3 Wifi signals, two are password protected and one is not password protected but does not provide access to the internal network, so it just connects directly to the broadband network
