just read this and can maybe clarify things a bit.
I would say that the water has come from the garage.
I used to work in an oil refinery and can say that all storage tanks are waterdrawn every month (otherwise we pay tax even on the water) and then they are checked again prior to being shipped out.
As for running higher octaine fuels in standard engines it shouild not make any difference to the preformance or to the health of the engine.
I have had a few high preformance cars that running better fuels did make hell of a difference in acceleration and MPG.
IE Subaru impreza on Shell V power high end acceleration much better and smother plus about 2>3 MPG on a run.
As for the Volvo i can't say but i depends on the way that the ECU is mapped for the knock sensor, it may actually advance the timing and give a bit more boost hence a bit more power, but it may just detect the better fuel and adjust the mapping acordingly

And the outlet of the tanks isn't located at the bottom (only the water drain is).

The water problem is when it bonds to the bio-fuel content.

100% in agreement with you, Tesco Momentum or shell V power for the T5. Better response, more power and smoother. My Mercedes runs on 95 and can't feel any difference using higher octane
